Organizational structure

The Consortium of the EVIONA project consists of the Leader (Medical University of Warsaw) and four partner institutions (Partners): University of Pittsburgh (USA), University of Pennsylvania (USA,) King’s College London (UK) and University Duisburg-Essen (Germany).

Two researchers from the Department of BiochemistryMałgorzata Czystowska-Kuźmicz, PhD and Beata Pyrzyńska, PhD (Project Coordinators), are responsible for the scientific management of the project. They will be supported in their decisions by the Coordination-Support Team consisting of 5 senior researchers from the partner universities:

  • prof. Theresa L. Whiteside (University of Pittsburgh)
  • prof. Serge Fuchs (University of Pennsylvania)
  • prof. Wei Guo (University of Pennsylvania)
  • prof. Tony NG (King’s College London)
  • dr Bernd Giebel (University Duisburg-Essen)

Mrs. Eliza Smolarczyk (Project Management Office at MUW) is responsible for the administrative management of EVIONA project. The Project Coordinators, having experience in studies about the immunosuppressive role of EVs (M. Czystowska-Kuźmicz, PhD) and about secretory signaling pathways (B. Pyrzyńska, PhD) and complementing their expertise, will meritorically coordinate the international cooperation and the twinning visits at the Partners’ institutions as well as manage and supervise the progress of joint research projects conducted at the Department of Biochemistry.


The research team at WUM, directly involved in the implementation of the EVIONA project, consistsof researchers, PhD students and graduate students:

At least one additional person is planned to be hired as PhD student to conduct research studies at the Department of Biochemistry and to participate in the twinning visits.

The progress of the EVIONA project will be monitored continuously, and project reports will be discussed by the Coordination Support Team together with the Project Coordinators at the annually meetings during the ISEV conferences and during the conference/workshop organized at MUW.

All project Partners expect that the long-lasting collaboration, exchange of ideas and experience and the transfer of know-how knowledge and best practices will contribute to the development of valuable joint projects, prestigious publications and grant applications from international resources and that the collaborative research activities will be continued after the completion of the EVIONA project.
