Project EVIRA

EVIRA - EVs from stem cells In tissue RegenerAtion

Extracellular vesicles from stem cells for tissue regeneration

The project is executed within the Program Strategic Partnerships financed by the National Agency for Academic Exchange (NAWA). The objective of the Programme is to develop durable solutions in the area of scientific, implementation and teaching process cooperation, pursued within the framework of international academic partnerships.

The main goal of the EVIRA project is to create long-term scientific cooperation of the Medical University of Warsaw (WUM) with leading foreign institutions in research on the use of extracellular microvesicles derived from stem cells in regenerative medicine.

As part of the project, WUM initiated and developed cooperation with two outstanding research centers from Lithuania and Japan (Partners):

  • Lithuanian University of Health Sciences (LSMU), Kaunas, Lithuania
  • Kaunas University of technology (KTU), Kaunas, Lithuania
  • Kumamoto University (KU), Kumamoto, Japan

The partners have complementary experience in the cultivation of stem cells under GMP conditions and their therapeutic use, clinical trials using stem cells, as well as control of technological processes and automation of cultivation in bioreactors.

The EVIRA project involves mutual training visits of WUM and Partners scientists in the Partners' cooperating research centers, the organization of conferences on regenerative medicine and microvesicles at LSMU with the participation of Partners, as well as the active participation of EVIRA project scientists in prestigious scientific conferences and workshops.

During training visits, scientists from the Medical University of Warsaw want to improve their research skills and expand them with the latest research methods. As part of the project, it is planned to jointly conduct current and initiate new research projects in the field of regenerative medicine and microbubbles, as well as joint applications for European funds under the Horizon Europe Program.

Project duration: 01.07.2022 - 30.06.2024
